THERE, THEIR a THEY'RE se vyslovují stejně, ale nemají stejný význam. Víte, jak se liší?

There, their, they're – procvičování:

Porovnejte:

Somebody is waiting there.
 Někdo tam čeká.
Their names are Pete and Andy.
 Jejich jména jsou Pete a Andy.
They're my good friends.
 (Oni) jsou moji dobří kamarádi.

Let's go there. Their desserts are the best. = Pojďme tam. Jejich zákusky jsou nejlepší.

THERE používáme pro určení místa:

The café is open. Do you want to sit there?
Kavárna je otevřená. Chcete si tam sednout?
Greece is very far. We will fly there.
 Řecko je velmi daleko. Poletíme tam.
It's a beautiful country. I'd like to live there.
 Je to krásná země. Rád bych tam žil.

Všimněte si, že THERE stojí na konci věty.

Protikladem THERE je HERE:

Let's eat there (= at that place).
 Najezme se tam.
Let's eat here (= at this place).
 Najezme se tady.

Jack went to the Alps. He was skiing there. = Jack jel do Alp. Lyžoval tam.

Tam:
He was there.
He was in the Alps.
Jack jel do Alp. Lyžoval tam.
Jack went to the Alps. He was skiing there.

I was late for the party. My car broke down on the way there. = Na večírek jsem přišel pozdě. Cestou tam se mi porouchalo auto.

Tam:

There is/are = je; existuje

Kromě určení místa (= tam) je THERE také ve vazbě THERE IS/ARE. Vazbu používáme, když chceme říct, že něco někde je nebo existuje:

There is coffee in the coffee machine. If you want, have some.
 V kávovaru je káva. Jestli chceš, dej si.
Is there an airport here?
 Je tu nějaké letiště?
There are no tourists in this part of town.
 V této části města nejsou žádní turisté.

Všimněte si, že je THERE IS/ARE na začátku věty. Místo (in the coffee machine, here, in this part of town...) používáme na konci věty.

Vazbu THERE IS/ARE používáme i v minulých a budoucích časech:

There was an accident yesterday.
 Včera se stala nehoda.
Were there any dogs in the park?
 Byli v parku nějací psi?
There will be a lot of people.
 Bude tam hodně lidí.

There are billions of stars in the sky. = Na obloze jsou miliardy hvězd.

Něco někde je: There are stars...

There was an apple on the table. Did you eat it? = Na stole bylo jablko. Snědl jsi ho?

Něco někde bylo:
Their There was an apple.

There is a viewpoint nearby. Do you want to go there? = Blízko je vyhlídka. Chceš tam jít?

Něco někde je:
There is a viewpoint.
Tam:

Their = jejich

THEIR je přivlastňovací zájmeno stejně jako MY, YOUR, OUR...:

Their flat is very small. My flat is bigger.
Jejich byt je velmi malý. Můj byt je větší.
Many people in Canada like ice hockey. It is their national sport.
 Mnoho lidí v Kanadě má rádo lední hokej. Je to jejich národní sport.
Jim and Karen are home alone. Their parents are abroad.
 Jim a Karen jsou sami doma. Jejich rodiče jsou v zahraničí.

THEIR používáme obvykle s podstatným jménem (their flat, their sport, their parents...).

The Americans don't need to buy a new car. Their car is fine. = Ti Američani si nemusí kupovat nové auto. Jejich auto je v pořádku.

THEY'RE je stažené THEY ARE:

These boxes are heavy. They're (= They are) full of books.
 Tyto krabice jsou těžké. Jsou plné knížek.
We have two pizzas.They're in the oven.
 Máme dvě pizzy. Jsou v troubě.
I love cats. They're my favourite animals.
 Miluju kočky. Jsou to moje oblíbená zvířata.

Podobně jako THEY ARE stahujeme také I AM, YOU ARE, HE IS...:

I'm (= I am) too heavy.
 Jsem moc těžký.
You're (= You are) too heavy.
 Jsi moc těžký.

Where are the keys? – They're in my pocket. = Kde jsou ty klíče? – Jsou v mé kapse.
