Se záporným slovesem můžeme použít ANY + přídavné jméno/příslovce ve druhém stupni (faster, longer, cheaper...):

We won't wait for them any longer.
 Už na ně nebudeme čekat.
You can't get this phone any cheaper.
 Levněji už tento telefon neseženeš.
He isn't any richer than you.
Není o nic bohatší než ty.
Flying to New York shouldn't be any more expensive than the train.
Cesta letadlem do New Yorku by neměla být dražší než cesta vlakem.

Podobný význam jako záporné sloveso + ANY má kladné sloveso + NO:

We won't wait for them any longer.
We will wait for them no longer.

Faster and faster, hotter and hotter...

Pokud chceme vyjádřit probíhající nebo postupnou změnu, použijeme dvě stejná přídavná jména/příslovce ve druhém stupni + AND:

My English is getting better and better.
 Moje angličtina se postupně zlepšuje.
Speaking is becoming easier and easier.
 Mluvení je čím dál lehčí.
I'm learning more and more new words every week.
 Každý týden se učím víc a víc nových slovíček.

Vazba THE... THE... s přídavnými jmény/příslovci ve druhém stupni vyjadřuje vzájemnou spojitost. Pokud se změní jedna věc, změní se zároveň i ta druhá:

The older you are, the grayer your hair gets.
 Čím jsi starší, tím máš víc šedin.
The more energy you need, the more you have to sleep.
 Čím víc potřebuješ energie, tím víc musíš spát.

Vazbu s THE...THE... můžeme někdy zjednodušit:
