BE USED TO znamená být zvyklý (na něco):

Všimněte si, že se mění pouze sloveso BE.

GET USED TO znamená zvyknout si (na něco):

I got used to living in the city.
 Zvykl jsem si žít ve městě.

George got used to shopping online. = George si zvykl nakupovat na internetu.

BE/GET USED TO používáme s -ING:

BE/GET USED TO můžeme použít s podstatným jménem nebo zájmenem:

BE/GET USED TO můžeme použít v různých časech, s modálními slovesy (can, must, should...) apod.:

Alex was used to sleeping in on Sunday. = Alex byl zvyklý si v neděli přispat.

Nepleťte si BE USED TO a USED TO. Porovnejte:

I'm used to living in London.
 Jsem zvyklý žít v Londýně.
When I was younger, I used to live in London.
Když jsem byl mladší, žil jsem v Londýně.

Pomocí USED TO vyjadřujeme, že něco v minulosti platilo, ale už neplatí:

She used to cook on Fridays, but now I do that.
 Dříve vařila v pátek, ale teď to dělám já.
They used to have a cat. Now they have only dogs.
 Dříve měli kočku. Teď mají jen psy.

Všimněte si, že po USED TO používáme sloveso v základním tvaru (cook, have...).

Alice used to be a vegetarian. She started eating meat last year. = Alice bývala vegetariánka. Maso začala jíst loni.

V minulosti platilo, ale už neplatí:
She used to being be a vegetarian.
Alice bývala vegetariánka. Maso začala jíst loni.
Alice used to be a vegetarian. She started eating meat last year.

Our kids were used to drinking a lot of coke. = Naše děti byly zvyklé pít hodně koly.

They were used to drinking it.
 Byly zvyklé ji pít.
