Na Landigo se dnes zaměříme na krátké věty, pomocí kterých vyjadřujeme, že je někdo na tom stejně, nebo že něco také platí/neplatí (např. So am I. – Já také.; Neither does he. – On také ne.).

So am I, neither am I – procvičování:

Pokud chceme vyjádřit, že je na tom někdo stejně a nechceme opakovat, co bylo právě řečeno, použijeme krátkou větu se SO/NEITHER:

He is hungry. So am I.
Má hlad. Já také.
He isn't hungry. Neither am I.
Nemá hlad. Já také ne.

SO použijeme po kladné větě:

He is hungry. So am I.

NEITHER použijeme po záporné větě:

He isn't hungry. Neither am I.
Já také ano.
So am I.
Já také ne.
Neither am I.

V krátkých větách je obrácený slovosled:

So am I.
Neither am I.

Nikoliv: So I am.; Neither I am.

Matthew isn't up yet, and neither is Naomi.

Neither Naomi is is Naomi.
Matthew ještě není vzhůru a Naomi taky ne.

V krátkých větách se SO/NEITHER používáme kladné sloveso + podmět (am I, does he, have you...). Sloveso v krátké větě je často stejné jako sloveso věty, ke kterému se krátká věta vztahuje:

Alena is a pretty girl. So is Kate.
Alena je hezká dívka. Kate také.
You should call me tomorrow. So should Tom.
Zítra bys mi měl zavolat. Tom by měl taky.
We haven't done it yet. – Neither have I.
Ještě jsme to neudělali. – Já také ne.
I couldn't come and neither could they.
Nemohla jsem přijít a oni také ne.

Nikoliv: Neither HAVEN'T I., Neither COULDN'T they.

Někdy je v krátké větě DO/DOES/DID:

Chloe never complains about work. Neither do I.
Chloe si nikdy nestěžuje na práci. Já také ne.
We go to the gym every day. So does Mitch.
Chodíme do posilovny každý den. Mitch také.
They forgot to invite her and so did I.
Zapomněli ji pozvat a já také.

Nikoliv: Neither COMPLAIN I., So GOES Mitch.

We have already packed our luggage and so has Chris.

We have packed, so has Chris.
We will pack, so will Chris.
We packed, so did Chris.
Už máme sbalené kufry a Chris také.
We have already packed our luggage and so has Chris.

I couldn't play baseball very well, neither could they.

I couldn't play, neither could they.
I could play, so could they.
Neuměl jsem moc dobře hrát baseball a oni taky ne.

Jimmy wants to travel around New Zealand and so do I.

Po kladné větě použijeme SO + sloveso + podmět:

We are so thirsty! – So am I.
Máme takovou žízeň! – Já taky.
Rebecca has passed the exam and so has Toby.
Rebecca zkoušku zvládla a Toby také.
They will have to help them so will you.
Budou jim muset pomoct, stejně tak i ty.

You should visit us in the summer. So should Erica.

Také ano:
So should Erica.
Erica should visit us too.
V létě bys nás měl navštívit. Stejně tak Erica.
You should visit us in the summer. So should Erica.

I would like to start working out again. So would my girlfriend.

I would like that. Neither So would she.
Chtěl bych zase začít cvičit. Moje přítelkyně by taky chtěla.

Neither am I. = Já také ne.

Po záporné větě použijeme NEITHER + kladné sloveso + podmět:

We aren't thirsty anymore. – Neither am I.
Žízeň už nemáme. – Já taky ne.
They can't afford these expensive shoes. Neither can you.
Nemohou si dovolit ty drahé boty. Ty taky ne.
I have never been to London and neither has Robert.
V Londýně jsem nikdy nebyl a Robert také ne.

I won't be at school on Thursday, neither will Jake. We're going to the dentist.

Neither won't will Jake.
Ve čtvrtek nebudu ve škole, Jake také ne. Jdeme k zubaři.

I don't drink coffee and neither does Jessie.

NEITHER je běžné jak v britské, tak i americké angličtině. V britské ang. se někdy také používá NOR:

He isn't thirsty and neither am I.
He isn't thirsty and nor am I.

My kids didn't like the fish too much, nor did John.

Také ne:
Nor did John.
Neither did John.
Dětem ryba příliš nechutnala, Johnovi taky ne.
My kids didn't like the fish too much, nor did John.
Me too. = Já také ano.
Me neither. = Já také ne.

V hovorové angličtině můžeme použít ME TOO (já také) a ME NEITHER (já také ne):

I want to watch this series. – Me too!
I don't want to watch this series. – Me neither!
Phil hates tomatoes. – Me too.
Phil doesn't eat tomatoes. – Me neither.

Nikoliv: I too.; I neither.

Já také ano.
