Na Landigo se dnes zaměříme na použití THE se slovy typu CINEMA, INTERNET nebo RADIO, když o nich mluvíme obecně (go to the cinema, browse the internet, listen to the radio...).

S některými slovíčky, jako např. CINEMA, THEATRE nebo RADIO a INTERNET, používáme THE, i když se o nich bavíme obecně:

Chris has always enjoyed going to the theatre, while Sarah prefers the cinema.	Chris vždy rád chodil do divadla, zatímco Sarah dává přednost kinu.
I usually listen to the radio or browse the internet while commuting to work.	Při cestě do práce obvykle poslouchám rádio nebo brouzdám po internetu.

Go to the cinema/theatre/opera...

Pokud se obecně bavíme o některých veřejných místech – CINEMA, THEATRE, OPERA, BALLET nebo PUB, použijeme THE. Spíše než místo samotné nás zajímá činnost (= co tam budeme dělat):

go to the cinema (to see a movie)

go to the theatre (to see a play)

go to the opera (to see an opera)

go to the pub (to drink, to socialise)

Pozor, u všech veřejných míst nepoužíváme THE stejným způsobem – např. u SCHOOL nebo CHURCH je použití členu komplikovanější.

Do you want to go to the pub for a pint?

Hospoda obecně:

go to a the pub

Nechcete si zajít do hospody na pivo?

Mluvíme obecně:

Porovnejte různé významy s THE a A:

What about going to the theatre this month? (= ptáme se na činnost – chození do divadla)	Is there a theatre in this small town? (= ptáme se na přítomnost divadla, jestli vůbec nějaké existuje)
Even though we're busy, we try to go to the theatre at least once a month. (= divadlo obecně)	We went to the newly opened theatre last night. (= konkrétní divadlo)

Is there a decent cinema near here? – I doubt it.

Existuje nějaké kino:

Je poblíž nějaké slušné kino? – Pochybuju o tom.

THE obvykle používáme před slovíčky RADIO, INTERNET a NEWSPAPER, pokud o nich mluvíme v obecném smyslu:
